Anniversary
Howard Lee Long and Margaret Long celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Thursday, March 20. The couple met through a mutual friend in September of 1942.
Once a baseball player for the Atlantic Crackers AAA Team, Lee was drafted into the Army in 1942. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg and later traveled to Iceland. Discharged in 1945, he returned to Gastonia and the couple later moved to Belmont. Both worked for Stowe Thread Company for about 15 years.
Howard retired from Belmont Water Plant in 1984, and Margaret retired from Wil-Mat Corp. in 1984. They have both been members of East Belmont Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years and have served in many capacities.
The couple, married March 20, 1943 at First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, will celebrate with their family Saturday, March 22 with lunch at Ryan’s Steak House.
The gathering will be hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Dan Stinson, and Margaret’s sister, Edith Anderson.
