East Gaston girls edge Raiders 2-0

The last time East Gaston and South Point met The Warriors sprayed hits all over the park and won by a bundle.

Friday, East Gaston had to depend on solid defense and the pitching of Michelle Primm for the win.

Primm was superb in fashioning a two-hit shutout while striking out eight. She also slammed the game’s only homerun, a solo shot in the sixth.

The torrid bats were absent, but the SP infield took away several hits with outstanding defense.

The Warriors got their first run in the third inning when Tameron Sealey beat out an infield hit and scooted all the way to third on a throwing error. She scored on another infield hit off the bat of Hannah McGee.

Taylor Mahaffey spoiled Primm’s no-hit bid with a one-out double in the fourth, but Primm stiffened and struck out the next two batters. Brooke Baliles got the Raiders second hit leading off the sixth inning.

South Point is playing in the Easter tournament this week.
