SP tennis tryouts Tennis Coach Todd Matthews said the Lady Raiders will have tryouts from Aug. 11 through Aug. 14 from 9-10 a.m.
Updated physicals are required before tryouts begin.
Led by Allison Harris, the tennis team opens its season at home against Ashbrook on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Belmont takes two without allowing a run
Belmont’s Wildcats won two games last week, both shutouts. The Wildcats beat Mount Holly 8-0 on Monday and whipped Grier 7-0 Thursday.
Andrew Locklear pitched a two-hitter and got seven strikeouts against the Hawks, and Patrick Horne led the offense with two hits.
Belmont (8-1) beat previously undefeated Grier (8-1) behind the pitching of Horne, who struck out eight.
Luke Beach, Dustin Wiles and Locklear had two hits each.
Cramerton notches a pair during the week
Cramerton’s Eagles whipped W.C. Friday 14-6 on Monday and Chavis b y the same score Thursday. Justin Pace pitched the win over Friday and Zach Daly went 4-for-4, including a grand slam. Pace also had three hits.
Pace and Will McGuire each came up with three hits in the Chavis victory, as Daly was the winning pitcher.
Cramerton (8-1 is now tied with Belmont and Grier for top spot in the conference.
Mount Holly loses two
The Hawks, after losing to Belmont early in the week dropped another to Stanley Thursday 9-0.
Jackie Hopkins went 4-for-4 for the Blue Devils and Matt Grimmett pitched a two-hitter.
Stanley also dropped a 13-5 decision to Chavis on Friday. Wes Jackson had four hits for Chavis, and he and Daniel Hall hit homeruns. Jacks also picked up the win.
Grier splits a pair; Hovis gets 20 whiffs
Grier, before losing to Belmont on Thursday, beat Chavis 9-2.
Garnett Bullock went 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs while Riley Hovis struck out 20. Hovis also went 3-for-4 and slammed a 3-run homerun over the centerfield fence.
