CRO holds fund-raiser
By THOMAS LARK
- Thu, May 22, 2008
MOUNT HOLLY—The Mount Holly Community Relief Organization is in need of some relief of its own.
To that end, the 52-year-old charitable agency held “The Parsons’ Table,” a benefit fund-raiser Thursday night at First Baptist Church of Mount Holly. Dr. Larry Kimel of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Holly and the Rev. Scott Anderson were among local pastors on hand, dressed as waiters, serving coffee and dessert to 52 local folks.
Dallas Wilborn sang songs at the first-ever event, while Sally Davis played the piano in the church’s fellowship hall.
CRO Executive Director Jean Dellinger said a sizeable amount of money was raised or pledged to help the organization that aids those in need.
“We don’t have all the pledges in,” Dellinger said, recapping the event Friday. “But they amount to a total of $9,386 for each of three years, and we’re shooting for more. We took in $1,795 in cash and checks from 38 people, including individuals and couples.”
The deepening recession is a prime cause of the CRO’s troubles, Dellinger revealed.
“It really is this bad economy,” she said. “We’re in the worst situation we’ve seen since we began in 1956. We did this fund-raiser in order to try and jumpstart our year. It was great night, and everybody had a good time.”
The CRO is located at 117 W. Central Ave. in downtown Mount Holly. Closed Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays, it is open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Clients must show proof of identification and income—if any.
For more information, call Dellinger at (704)827-9457 or the CRO at (704)827-0450.
