North Davidson ends East Gaston’s run

North Davidson turned the tables on East Gaston Friday night and ended the Warriors’ season. The Knights used a running, slap the ball over the infield offense to beat EG 4-0.

Hannah Alexander struck out 11 and walked none in a three-hit shutout that moved them on to the third round of the state playoffs.

The Warriors (21-4) committed two errors and threatened to score just once during the game.

“They beat us fair and square,” said Coach Richard Hawley. “I didn’t know much about them, but they have a good ball team.”

Megan Soots, Blair Collier and Tameron Sealey had EG’s three hits, and trailed just 1-0 going into the last inning, when North Davidson scored their last three runs.

East Gaston loaded the bases in the third inning, but couldn’t push any runs across.

Michelle Primm struck out three, walked three and surrendered six hits to the Knights, whose record is now 24-3.

Hawley said he was proud of his team for winning two consecutive conference crowns and tournaments.

Last Tuesday, EG took on East Burke in the first round and dispatched the Cavaliers 11-1 in five innings.

Primm was again the winning pitcher, despite the flu, or at least a bad cold, and she knocked in the 11th run on a two-run single up the middle. The game was over after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The flu symptoms affected others on the team as well, but Coach Hawley, on Thursday, said everybody would play.

“Michelle didn’t practice Thursday,” Hawley said, “but she’s much better.”

That could have been bad news for North Davidson. Primm came close to a perfect game against East Burke. She pitched a 2-hitter and struck out five.

Warrior hitters raked Jessica Conley for 10 hits, with Hannah McGee and Primm each getting two.

Primm, besides knocking in the last run, started the inning with a double. Conley then issued two free passes before Soots blasted a 3-run triple to rightfield. Collier and Tameron Sealey followed with singles and East Burke chipped in with a couple of errors, turning the game into a rout.

Cameron Sealey knocked in the first run in the first inning with a 2-out triple. Her sister, Tameron, ran wild, getting three steals and unsettling the Cavaliers defense with her antics on the base paths.

Cameron and Tameron like to run,” Hawley said, “and if you fall for one of their tricks, we’re going to score.”

Tameron, at one point stood between first and second daring the pitcher to try for her while a potential run was perched on third, ready to take off for home.

“We started slow but got to rolling after our bats woke up” Hawley said.
