Remember the rules for graduations

The Class of 2008 is about to become official as graduation is upon us this weekend. Area seniors from Belmont and Mount Holly will walk the stage to pick up hard earned diplomas Saturday.

In all, over 2,100 Gaston students will graduate, mostly all on Saturday. Gaston School’s Superintendent Reeves McGlohon hopes providence falls upon them as they begin their new paths.

“High school graduation is a milestone in life. We are extremely proud of our graduating seniors and we wish them luck in their future endeavors as they begin this new phase in life.”

Just in case you’re out of the loop, here are some details of the proceedings that graduates and their guests will need to know.

South Point High School’s Graduation is Saturday, June 7 at 9 a.m. at Lineberger Stadium. School Board Chairman David A. Phillips and Assistant Superintendent Mark Hollar will be attending. Three hundred students are expected to graduate.

In case of rain, the ceremonies will take place in the auditorium. The decision to have an indoor ceremony will be made two hours prior to the set time.

FOR SOUTH POINT GUESTS

Parking is limited and carpooling is recommended for graduates and families.

All guests must have tickets. In case of rain those holding these tickets will be the only ones admitted to the ceremony. Others can view it on closed circuit TV in the school building.

Guests will be searched. This includes purses, bags, camera equipment, etc. We ask that items brought into the stadium are kept at a minimum.

No umbrellas, balloons or coolers are allowed.

Handicapped guests will have chairs in front of the home section. There will be space for one handicapped person and one person to assist them. The remainder of the guests must sit in the stands.

Stadium gates close five minutes prior to the start of the ceremony.

No tobacco products may be used on school grounds.

East Gaston High School’s Graduation Ceremony will be held in the gymnasium rain or shine at 9 a.m. Principal Marty Starnes will deliver a charge to the class of 2008. School board members attending are Kevin L. Collier and Kemp A. Michael. Deputy Superintendent for Operations Leon Moretz will also attend. Three hundred and five students are expected to graduate.

FOR EAST GASTON GUESTS

Each person who enters must have a ticket, including children of all ages; however, it is requested that babies and toddlers not attend because of the formal nature of graduation.

Also, please remember that mailed announcements are not invitations; these announcements do not entitle admittance to the ceremony. Remember everyone must have a graduation ceremony ticket to be admitted.

Please be advised of limited parking.

Guests should be aware that everyone will be wanded or searched. Please leave pocketbooks at home or locked-up to facilitate movement through the doors of the school.

All persons attending the ceremony should plan to be seated before 8:55 a.m. and stay throughout the entire ceremony because latecomers and early leavers disrupt and detract from the occasion. Please note that that there will be a recessional.

REMINDER: NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED TO THE GYM AFTER SENIORS MARCH IN.

Individual taping and photography are allowed as long as they do not interfere with anyone, are individually held, and done from a seated position.

Guests are asked to follow the general rules of conduct.
