•I believe the land over there on Park Drive in Belmont that Belmont Parks and Rec has allotted for a skate park is a bad idea. I don’t think the Belmont community in general will benefit from this—other than just a handful of kids that are skateboarding which for the most part is just a few of them that we have to kick off of sidewalks and in the parks.
If they could use this land for something that would be useful for the entire community that would be safe, that would be a great idea. Obviously, it didn’t work over in Lineberger Park in Gastonia nor did it work in Cherryville. I don’t see why they think it’s going to work in Belmont. It’s going to ruin property value and just cause trouble.
•I have a major concern about the congestion on South Point Road at South Point High School with students being picked in the afternoon.
Vehicles that can’t get into the parking lot line up on South Point Road in the one lane of travel going south backing up all the way into the intersection of South Point Road and Nixon Road creating a very dangerous situation.
South Point Road is already overburdened with all the traffic and this just makes it that much worse. My suggestion would be to utilize the new parking lot off of Nixon Road for student drop off and pick up. It appears to be larger and would accommodate two lanes of traffic. This would move congestion off a primary thoroughfare onto a secondary road eliminating a very dangerous situation.
The other suggestion would be to assign a police officer to keep vehicles from blocking the road but this would remove a valuable resource from patrolling.
