Bingo is held every Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Gaston County Senior Center.
Old friends are invited to play bingo, canasta, Scrabble, Boggle, poker, Jenga, checkers, ping-pong and more. Or bring your favorite game and teach the group. No partners are required, and admission is free. Prizes are also awarded.
The Gaston County Senior Center is located at 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Highway.

Homecoming and revival - Hood Memorial AME Zion Church will hold its 59th annual Homecoming and Revival on Sunday, Sept. 7. The Rev. Dr. Benjain Morrow, presiding elder of Charlotte District, AME Zion will be the guest pastor at the 11 a.m. service. For the afternoon worship and celebration at 4 p.m., the Rev. Port-a-Pit barbecue - A Port-a-Pit barbecue will be held Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at Park Street United Methodist Church. Tickets are $8 for half a chicken or $10 for ribs. Each plate will feature either chicken or ribs and beans, slaw and a roll. The money will benefits the church’s annual Thanksgiving offering. The evening begins at 6 p.m., with a barbecue and chicken dinner, followed by beach music by disc jockey Gene Hensley, 7-11 pm. Proceeds will go to the nonprofit Mount Hollydays events to be held in December. Tickets are $25 each and available at the following Mount Holly businesses: BB&T, Charlie’s Drugs, Christy’s Restaurant, Citizens South, Wachovia and Community One banks and David’s Detailing and Car Wash. Kids Art Festival and Art Crawl - Put Sept. 13 on your calendar for the Belmont Kids Arts Festival and Art Crawl. The event is sponsored by the Belmont Downtown Merchants Association. Bring the children and grandchildren downtown, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., for hands-on art experiences on the sidewalks in front of many participating businesses. Then come back downtown in the evening, 5-8 p.m., to view the works of local artists on exhibit in stores and businesses along Main Street.

Consignment sale - The annual “Second Blessings” fall children’s consignment sale will be held Sept. 20 at the First United Methodist Church of Belmont. The event will take place in Carpenter Hall, 7-11 a.m. Needed are consignors with high-quality items, such as fall and winter clothing for infants, toddlers and older children; maternity clothing; large toys; and baby equipment, such as strollers, high chairs, cribs, rockers, playpens and swings. Stanley pageant - Stanley’s Little Miss Country Fest pageant will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 at 9:15 a.m. near BB&T on Main Street in Stanley. Contestants do not need to dress up for the informal pageant. Often, girls were jeans or shorts and T-shirts to participate. Every contestant will receive a tiara and other special gifts. There will be six age categories: Baby Miss—Under 2 years Mini Miss—Ages 2 & 3 Tiny Miss—Ages 4 & 5 Little Miss—Ages 6 & 7 Junior Miss—Ages 8-11 Young Miss—Ages 11-14 One girl from each category will win the crown and title. Entry fee is $40. All entries must be complete by Thursday, Sept. 25. Those registering before Thursday, Sept. 18 will receive a special prize. Entry forms are available at Stanley Town Hall, Jane McClure School of Dance, area schools, dance studios and day cares. For more information, call (704)263-8775.
